Locomotive does not want to run forward or reverse in command mode. It works fine in conventional mode. It has only been out of the box once before yesterday and it was run only in conventional mode then. The lights change ends so it is getting the direction command. The horn and bell work intermittantly. I can get the locomotive running on occassion by spinning the L button on the CAB-1 at a very fast pace. If it does move it stops within seconds. The tmcc systems is connected to a postwar 250 watt ZW. I also have an S gauge loop connected to the same transformer output with an NYC mikado that works fine in command mode. Any thought? Just a long shot, but buried somewhere in the parameters for the locomotive is one for the number of speed steps per turn of the red L knob. I don't remember how to get to those settings, but I'm thinking that there are two settings - one with lots of speed steps, and the other for fewer speed steps. If you can find the setting, you could try the lower setting.
TMCC locomotives generally have fewer speed steps than locomotives with the Legacy system.

As a follow up, the lights are flickering in command mode. I seemed to have read that that sympton may be an indicator of something.
When the headlight flickers that is normally a sign of a signal issue, loss of signal/weak/intermittent/etc.
How do you have the command base hooked up. As a test can you disconnect your wiring from the S gauge track and hook the command base directly(not thru the transformer) to the outside rail(assuming you have 3rail track) of your "O" gauge track. See if this makes any difference.

Ok, this is what I have learned. The Lionel Dash 8 does not like it when I am trying to operate it with the American Flyer Mikado on seperate loops hooked to the same or different outputs of the postwar ZW transformer while using a single command base. The American Flyer Mikado doesn't seem to be affected as it runs fine in command mode regardless of what else is hooked up to the transformer. The Lionel Dash 8 also does not like it if I try to run a conventional AF engine on the S gauge loop. If I disconnect the ground of the S gauge loop the Lionel Dash 8 on the Super O loop runs fine. The number of steps or the lack of batteries were not the cause of this issue. Thank you all for your attempts to solve the problem.
S gauge and O gauge do not play nice with each other been a battle ever since the beginning I guess it still is. even in electronics. sorry to here of your problems you would think it would work fine.
