I took the e unit apart and took it apart. It turns out one of the drum sides had been worn down where it goes into the frame. I dropped a new one in and now it works great. It is always good to have a pile of those on hand.
I normally don't have to do a rebuild unless one of the finger contacts are broken or the drum is flawed. (warped, stuck, or arcs) I trust you've cleaned the drum with q-tips and some sort of cleaner. (mineral spirits, alchohol, or WD-40 etc) That often works wonders for me without having to remove it. Sometimes deposits on the copper contact on the drum build up and require lightly scraping off with a small slotted screwdriver. Good luck.

Another way to tighten a loose e-unit lever is to slip a horseshoe washer behind the fiber plate, next to the metal body.
I think that it's probably a faulty lever, I just bent mine a little bit to relighted it.
working on a 1666. It runs for a while on the rollers on my test set then it fails to cycle with the e unit. That familiar e unit buzz stops stops. Before I open this one up (because it is a pain to take apart)...does everybody think it is likely in need of an e unit rebuild?
if I let it sit for about 20 minutes to cool down it is fine but when warmed up the problem keeps recurring.
