American flyer 364 B unit condenser
Posted by irontooth on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 3:41 PM

Hello American Flyer Fans

I just got a 364 B unit that is complete, except for the condenser. the part number is PA 11A991 but my book does not tell me what the MFD rating is. Can anyone help?? The resistor is a 56 ohm.

Thanks

According to Tom Barker in his book "Gilbert American Flyer S Gauge Operating and Repair Guide" you are looking for a 25 microfarad, 35 electron volt, capacitor.  He also suggests disabling the resistor by cutting one lead.  The resistors do not contribute significantly to the sound value and have been known to overheat to the point where they begin to melt the plastic body.

I have figured out what is wrong with my brain!  On the left side nothing works right, and on the right side there is nothing left!

Just "volt", not "electron volt", which is something else.
