The D-302 was a special project for Lionel. I have never seen or been aware of any additional documents relating to it. The number of Super O track sections was specified in the track plan included in the issue you read. That should tell you what you will need. Good luck.

I just purchased the Lionel Trains magazine published by Classic Toy Trains and the D-302 layout piqued my interest. However, my eyes aren't as young as they used to be and I'm having a hard time making out the details.
Does anyone have a better picture/more information than what was published in the magazine?
