The day is April 21, 1865 and the Civil War has just ended. The country lies in mourning while the slain President's coffin leaves Washington, D.C. backtracking almost the exact route he followed to Washington as President when elected four years earlier.

Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth President of the United States, was assassinated on Good Friday April 14, 1865. The President's coffin travelled home in a special private car built for him while alive but never used until this sad occasion. The funeral train travelled from Washington to Baltimore and on to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. It was headed by Pennsylvania Railroad Locomotive 331 and was draped in black.

Lincoln's coffin is moved to the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives to lie in state. 40,000 people lined Harrisburg's streets when the coffin returned to the depot to begin its journey to Philidelphia's Broad Street Station.

Public viewings were repeated in Philadelphia before the pattern started over in Jersey City, New York, Cleveland, Columbus (via the Cleveland Columbus and Cincinnati R.R.) and Chicago. The procession eventually arrived in Springfield on May 4th. On each cross over from one railroad to the other the engine was changed and the train made stops at every town along the way to give Americans a chance to pay their last respects.

This engine is a typical O Gauge 4-4-0 which is oversize and no where close to scale, but is no different than what MTH or Lionel has been making in the past. It is a great smoker and runs great with DCS command (PS2) or conventional mode.

We did do some little dress up on it by painting the split logs in the tender and also outlining the lead wheels. We also added some gold trim pin striping.

We also have a stock certificate from the Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati RR from 1872.

We also have passenger cars on order for this which are due in January.

and also Baggage Cabin

PS: looks like MTH web page is down this morning.

Hey Ya'll

That is impressive. I have recently gotten my dad into train collecting and we have bought about 15 peices. My particular favourite is the Pride Lines Hiawatha with baggage headcar, 2 coaches, and observation. We have bought 2 molre coaches too.
