O.K. Thanks Bob. Appreciate the feedback.

The designs are very different: The geep trucks had the motor shaft running through the center bearing, while the NW2 trucks' center bearing was distinct from the motor shaft.

Thanks Kev. I was thinking of using the 622-100 from the 1950 version. You may be correct in saying the castings are slightly different between the 622-100 and the 2028 used in the GP-7's. I had a feeling they may be somewhat different. but doesn't hurt to ask.
From what I could fine in the repair book:
Seems there are two motors for the 622. 622-100 and 622-100X they will not exchange with each other. The 100X fits only the 1949 model 622 so you would just need to see by giving it a try if your not sure what year 622 you have. The 2028 was from 1955 and may work in the 1950 622.
Looking at those motors on E-bay listings it don't look good. They seem to be different on the bottom castings.

Would it be possible to substitute at Lionel 622-100 for a 2028-100 motor. Are there any differences between the tow?
