Something for SPFHere is a nice entry level Great Northern Alco RS-3 I scored on the bay for just $25.80 last week. I think the grandson will love it and I won’t have to worry about any crashes. As Mike C puts it ”Cheap Classics” can be had!

The engine got a big testing today by the 27 month old grand-son and held up well and all had fun. I like both diesels and steam but at 63 years old I do not recall many steam engines running on the EJ&E tracks that were 500' from our house in Plainfield IL. My older brother and uncle do. So they both work for me. Jordan has no clue and just wants to run them.
So nice to see the little ones enjoy the hobby.

I just picked up a nice prewar set for less than $82 and maybe another $25 in parts I will have a nice set it is know as set #236 I allso got a extra car a 902 gondola with the set. Will do pics when get it and the parts to show it off.

RT a lot of people seem to struggle with this software and also posting pictures. So I bet that don’t help SPF. Will love to see what you got when your done.. Even as a bottom basement unit it runs good and has great low end speed pulling six cars. I missed a 218 Postwar set today I was looking for to do a project on because I had the grand-daughter and was not at the bay when it closed out. Next time.
KRM, I'm 62 myself and my earliest memory is of a steam engine. I know now it was on the NYC West Shore line, probably 1956, but couldn't tell you what kind of NYC steamer it was. Made me a steam fan for life at the age of three!
Aside from that, I've got no memories of steam in regular service.
As long as your grandson is "getting into training" as it were, that's all that matters!

Thanks for starting Sunday Photo Fun. It has always been one of my favorite threads on the site. I'm glad to see that your are bringing it back. I start a photo thread on another site every saturday, and it doesn't get a whole lot of participation.
