The number-1456 lamp is an 18-volt, 250-milliampere, G4.5 lamp.  It was replaced in the later GG1 models (2330, 2340, 2360) by the 18-volt, 150-milliampere, G3.5 number-1445 lamp.  Unless you're actually operating continuously at 18 volts, you would probably be satisfied with the easy-to-find 14.4-volt, 120-milliampere, G3.5 number-53 lamp.

The original number listed is #717-45, which has been replaced by #1456.  The original was bayonet style, 14v, the replacement is same style, but 18v.  Just check different parts suppliers, who should have the newer bulb.  Either search 1456 or some have it listed as 1456-300.  Jeff Kane has them at $.75 each, Olsen's also has them at #.80 each...and others most likely have them in the same price range.Big Smile

Just guessin', but if you've got an old post-war GG1 chances are that's a plain 18 volt bulb.  Check your local hardware store or a Radio Shack, if there's any of those still around.

I've had pretty good luck going the hardware store route, but you can also check any hobby shop in your area that sells Lionel.  Nothing special about that bulb.

Lionel GG1 2332 Light Bulb Type?
Posted by alanwhite on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 12:38 AM

I recently purchased a Lionel GG1 2332 and one of the lights did not work. I opened it up and there was no bulb. I looked at the bulb that did work but all it said was "GE 1456". I looked it up on Google and couldn't find any info. What is the voltage, amps, and type of bulb I should purchase for my 2332 GG1? Thanks in advance for your help.
