They lack the grunt and roar of the oldies and of course the ozon-smell. They are for sale a lot on ebay, so you could get one of those back again.. There really is something magic in the Lionel postwar F3's!! None has ever beaten their impression and joy to drive since I have toytrains. Not my prewar BING machines, not the new K-line machines I have; they still are the best trains ever made.

MTH F3 purchase - not impressed :(

Well I set up a trial run of what I want my Christmas layout to look like and I finally got to run my new FEC MTH F3's. I was not that impressed to tel you the truth. I kind of regret selling my 2343's and Wabash Postwar Celebration Series F3 AB set. It runs very well and the smoke unit is cool - but the Protosounds and the little things like adjusting the volume is just annoying compared to Lionel railsounds. I love the FEC roadname and quality of the graphs and they run great but I kinda miss my Lionel engines. I ran my 2321's after that and the smell I associated with operating toy trains all came back to me. If I had it to do over I think I would have purchased the Lionel Postwar Celebration series Rio Grande Set. On the hand my Williams 746 "J" ran amazing as my only steamer on my two track floor layout.
