The engine posted actually lookes like someone repainted the body shell of a different, more common set of alcos and repainted it to match the 2023. it almost look lie a mod 1065 (MAJOR mod)

The only guy who paints the noses good enough to pass for real is Len Carparelli. The paint would NOT be glossy like in the pic above. There have been some good forgeries of these in the past by others too so it pays to be SURE its real. If you have any real doubts pass.

Len Carparelli is one name that springs to mind when I think of, quoting myself, a "first-class dealer with a sterling reputation."

This one is somebody's fantasy piece and cannot be trusted to be genuine:

THIS is why I want to see a pricey article "up close and personal" before I drop any heavy money on it.  Nothing beats the Mark I Eyeball for determining authenticity and/or alterations.  Sorry, but on-line photos don't cut it for me.

I MIGHT make an exception for a first-rate dealer with a sterling reputation.

Being a scarce loco, an authentic one would command a high price, depending on condition.Have an expert examine the loco to determine authenticity.

(There is a gray nose 2023 being sold on an online auction site, and it specifically states that the units were not originally painted with a gray nose).

Boy--that looks easy to forge.  how would you be sure it was authentic?

Cany anyone post  a picture of the first run 2023 made in 1950 with the gray nose (from the factory)?  have found one for sale, but I want to see what a factory job looked in terms of how sharp--I don't even really know--it was a paint job wasn't it? it wasn't a decal was it? trying to protect myself against a forgery.
