My uncle has a old Marx steam loco tin set, I have never seen couplers like it has, They are not like the what I call V tab as found on many sets in the 60s. There not like the 90 degree metal drop in slot kind. They are a kind of pocket coupler. So this may help set an age to it.I don’t have a picture of the engine but when I was there he told me it had run but would spark a lot at the armature when it did. When I looked at it the brushes they look almost gone. They sit in a round tube with a single wire spring pushing them down. I thought if I could figure out what it is and if I could find a place to get a pair I would replace them the next time I go to his place. I know it is a shot in the dark without a picture but thought I would ask here just the same.Tks,

Thanks guys, I talked to my uncle over the weekend and he is going to give me the loco to work on. When I get it I will post pictures so it can be Identified.

The brush plate is worn out at the Armature pin hole so I need a plate and brushes to get it running.

This looks like the set, and this Marx overview states that the Canadian Pacific set was available from 1936-1949.
My friend who repairs Marx and other trains uses Lionel post war steamer brushes cut down shorter.

Keep in mind w/ the integrated gears/wheels this loco will prob not like the switches on your layout.

Thanks Bob, I figured it would not work on my switches. It is for my uncle and he does not have switches so should be okay.
I used Bob Grossman for my order.
Well I got the parts from Bob Grossman and finished the Marx project.
I drilled out the wheel that had the drive rod stud broken so a 1/8” split rivet would fit in the hole. Then I put a nylon spacer to raise the rod from the wheel and keep the glue from going where I did not want it. I glued the rivet into place with Locktite metal epoxy. Looks like it will be as good as the original set up or better. I replaced the brush plate, brushes, and install the missing smoke stack and drive rod that was missing. Runs like new!! I think my uncle will be happy.
