Track Switches

Hello and help!! I'm starting planning on a high-rail layout. I am going to use GarGraves tinplate track throughout (720 sq. ft.) and am trying to get some information on switches. I've been told that GarGraves switches aren't that reliable; Ross Custom Switches are beautiful but expensive. Can anyone help with Curtis Switches? I've tried searching the net but can't find their actual web site or e-mail address, and unfortunately they don't seem to advertise in CTT. Anyone out there have any info on Curtis Products? I would appreciate any help. Thanks and happy railroading!!

I can't comment, though, as I've never seen any in operation. I understand, though, that their pricing is along the same lines as Ross.

I have some Curtis switches, and have found them to be of the higest quality. As far as price, Ross and Curtis are pretty close. I have only looked at the Ross switches in the store. While Ross are more popular, that has lead to more of a mass production philosophy, and as such, perhaps a shortcut or two in production. Ross switches are still a quality product, but Curtis may have a slight edge there.

By the way, Ross and Curtis started out as business partners, but split in the early 90's.

There has never been a quality issue with Ross switches; As you stated Steve at Ross used to be partners with Curtis;

As I recall they broke up because mass production vs. quality was an issue. And even though Ross is in more stores; his quality doesn't lack for production.

It was my understanding (unconfirmed) that Curtis and Ross were partners.

When I built my layout years ago I went with GarGraves track. I considered Ross and/or Curtis switches but I was hesitant about the GarGraves center rail not being stainless steel. 

Curtis agreed to build my switches (including the center rail) of all stainless steel so I ordered all the switches from Curtis and I have been very happy with them ever since.

Now I am downsizing due to age and health and I will probably sell my O gauge layout.

The GarGraves track has also held up well but I would be happier if it too had center rails of stainless steel track. There has been some minor rusting of the GarGraves center rail.
