Thank-you for your comments, robmcc.Information on these sets seems to be quite scarce.
Would be great, if people having these sets would chime in with their views and just what they have included in their sets.
Good to know. I mainly focus on collecting and operating Lionel/MTH, etc. Canadian road names and to the best of my knowledge, 1171 only came with the 9143 CN gondola. Lionel/Parker Brothers had the 1174 CN GP7 set that included both the 9143 gondola and the 9013 hopper. With that said, we all know there was always some set variances. Sometimes I've found the stock pictures on DASH/collector-model trains not to be 100% accurate.
Just bring this thread up to date with what I have been able to find out since the last post.
It seems to be that 6-1171 was the number for a set available only in Canada. This set included an 8040 locomotive,CN tender,CN hopper car,CN gondola and CN caboose.
Set t-1171 was available in both Canada and the United States as far as I can find out.It included an 8040 locomotive,CN tender,CN gondola and CN caboose.
Would be interested in hearing any thing any one might know about these sets.
Thanks for the reply,Bob.Sounds reasonable what you said. The seems to be little info about the set available or why I have seen it listed as T-1171 and 6-1171.
FWIW Greenburg's Guide to Lionel Trains 1979-1991, Vol. 2 states the contents were the loco & tender, gondola and caboose. Parker Brothers distributed Lionel trains in Canada for a bit – their target seems to have been primarily Canadian department store chains. I'm guessing that just like American store sets, there was probably some variety in the set contents depending on the desires of the seller. Perhaps some Canadian O gaugers would know the answer for certain.

In the Canadian 1971 catalogue the CN T-1171 set is listed as having an 8040 loco,CN tender,CN gondola and CN caboose.
On the collector-modeltrains site they have a picture of a CN 6-1171 Set that includes an 8040 loco,CN tender,CN gondola,CN hopper and CN caboose.
Were these two different sets or has something become mixed up some how?
