It would not surprise me if Lionel used red on some locomotive, but it would be an odd choice, since it would mean that the locomotive was at the rear of the train. Green, the only color I've noticed on Lionel locomotives, meant that another section was following the train. Here is a Trains article about it: http://trn.trains.com/railroads/abcs-of-railroading/2006/05/locomotive-classification-lights
Bob Nelson
All I've ever seen are green "lights" on Lionels. This doesn't mean they never used any others, but I've never seen anything else. On steamers I should say.
As an aside, I was at a a craft store today and bought some green Swarovski crystals to replace some missing classification lights on my Lionels. Hey, only the best for my locomotives!
Did Lionel use colors other than green and red rhinestones in their steam locomtive class lights?
