Glad to hear that you got your car properly assembled, and that Jeff was able to help you.

Larry, a follow up to let you know that Jeff Kane from the Train Tender took the time to examine his personal car and explain to me where the cone shaped spring and drum spring (small washer) go. The cone shaped spring is positioned below the car frame rather than between the car frame and derrick base. The drum spring (small washer) is positioned on the drum shaft as I indicated in the previous post. I am pleased with the results and, again, thanks for responding.

Larry,

Thank you for responding. After posting my request for help, I located an Ebay photo of a drum with the small washer on it, serving as a spacer, so I know where it belongs. As for the cone shaped spring, I positioned it between the cab body and the car frame, with the screw that fastens the cab to the car running through the spring. It does act to hold the cab off the car frame when the cab rotates but the fact that Lionel calls it a drum spring still makes me suspicious. Since I reassembled the entire car, right or wrong, before seeing your response, I really don't want to disassemble it for an interior photo and hope that doesn't offend you. I'm hopeful someone familiar with the car will verify my placement of the spring was correct.

I have attempted to post a photo of the completed car and it does show up in my post right now. Hope it is still in my post after I click on the "submit" button.

Again, thank you

Taking an educated guess that the drum is where the string gets wound on in the cab, the drum spring and possibly the washer are part of that assembly.

A clear picture of the inside of the cab with the shafts assembled so far would help.

I recently purchased a 2660 Derrick Car that needed help and should have taken pictures during its disassembly, but didn't. I referred to Olsen's Library to verify all parts were present and to learn what went where. The schematic is not complete. The parts list identifies a "Drum Spring, 2660-9". Is this the cone shaped spring and, if so, does it get placed between the frame of the car and the base of the crane to support the crane? Also, I have one small washer that does not appear in the schematic and is not one of the washers used to attach the trucks to the car frame. Can you tell me where this washer goes?

Thanks, swede
