Keep the wiring as original, and just add a jumper wire from the e-unit lever contact to ground, jumping out the fixed and movable contacts of the relay.Disconnect the wire to the whistle relay coil, and the e-unit will now function normally. Magic Electrol wiring diagram shown here.

I recently read a CTT December 2010 posting about Magic Electrol. I read it several times but still do not understand the dynamics of M.E. My question to those of you "in the know" about M.E. is this. I have a beautiful #201 0-6-0 with a slope back 2210T. I disassembled the locomotive to lube and clean it. Many of the wires are crunchy and need replacing. Does this locomotive, in order to run, need to have the 3 plug-in wires from the tender to the engine attached to the board in the cab? While I think Magic Electrol is a cool concept I want to maintain the integrity of the engine and tender. I would like to put it back together and operate it with a normal cycling reverse unit and without ME. Thank you for any comments.
