Maxi-Stack Car height?
Posted by KRM on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 10:54 AM

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how tall the Lionel Maxi-Stack Car height is from top of rail to top of car? I would like to know if they will fit through the tunnel before I go for some.
 Tks,
 Kev.

I guess no one on the forum has one to measure.  I don't either; but maybe this will help:  Prototype double-stacks are 20'2" high, which scales to 5.042 inches in 1/48.  So, even if Lionel made the car fully to scale, it shouldn't be any higher than that.

While I don't have any at the moment I know they are lower than the railking stack cars which are 5 1/16" from top of railhead.  Hope this helps.

Sounds like they may be okay, The tunnel is 5.25” from the rail to the top of the opening.

Guess I will try one.

Doug and RT, Good to hear from ya. I like them but would sure like to know for sure if they will fit. As you may know I have not been around another place, not of my doing but got caught up in something and well. You know. Hmm Still working the hobby!

I will let you know if they fit once I find a cheap price set so I won't want to go nuts if they don't fit. I have the TTUX flatcar set with Southern, Sealand, and Conrail trailers and they  fit fine, Just thought the Maxi-Stacks would look good on the same train.

Take care.
