Tonyh and Rod M.,Thank you for taking the time to help me!![:)] It appears I was'nt holding the keys down long enough!! The chuff Rate works just fine[:D]
But here's the BONUS: The manual says that the chuff rate can be set from 3 thru 6, but the K-line tech said you can actually use 1 thru 6. Well, if you set it on 1 you get the neatest chuff at a little better speed, try it!! And thanks again!![:D]
This Shay is the most fun you can have with your clothes on!!!!

Jon,

I have two Shays and have played with the chuff rate at least a dozen times with no problems.

Just be sure to hold each key down for one second during the sequence.

I just noticed that you mentioned it was not necessary to turn ON the cruise control??? I have never turned mine off, so cannot comment on the results when CC is off. Maybe this is your problem if you have CC off?

Tony

Rod M, Thanks for your input. I quess I can try to enter the change twice later tonight. I was just hoping that someone else here had a Shay and could test theirs for me. K-line makes a great product at a great price and I'm sure this "bug" will get resolved!![:)]

I saw one of these engines running this past weekend. A really cool engine. Watching all that drive linkage moving was awesome.

I don't know if this will help, and I'm not real familiar with K-Line's engine, however, on my lone Allegheny in which I installed their cruise system on, your sequence sounds very similar to the way I had to change the speed step mode from either 32, 128 or 256 (I'd guess though that your sequence is a bit different since the Allegheny doesn't have the ability to change chuff rate).

I also figured out that whenever you change the speed steps, you need to apply the change TWICE, to get the lights back in the correct sequence. While applying it once would work, it would reverse the directional lighting.

Got a chance to try the Chuff Rate Command again today (dir + whistle + aux1 + 3) and found that on my locomotive ,it reverses the headlight and back-up light function. Thats all. No chuff rate change. I called the K-line tech this morning who said that he would get back with me after contacting an engineer.
Hoping that there's a misprint in the manual, as this is my replacement Shay after the first one was returned for a terrible speaker vibration. It's gonna be hard to give up, because aside from that, this engine is a blast to run.

To change the Chuff Rate the manual says to hit on the keypad: Dir+whstl+aux1+(3-6). When I do this my engine locks itself in reverse[:0].
Before I tried it, the K-line Tech said that it did not need to be set in the Program Mode nor did Cruise Control need to be turned on. What am I doing wrong?????[:(] Thanks, Jon
