Rob and Bob Nelson, thanks for your replies. I finally figured out it would be better to leave the drivers as is, replace the pickup shoe which it needs and then try and sell the 2026 and get a 2037 that will also probably need a lot of work. Jeff at Train Tender is sending me out a new shoe plate.
lionelsoni Consider replacing the entire motor with one from a 2037, to add magnetraction as well. I did that when my motor bearings wore out completely.

That is another direction I will go if I can't find the correct ones.
ADCX Rob Since the center drivers are "blind", it would be a lot easier to machine them, or remove extra material by grinding or filing, while still on the loco.

Since the center drivers are "blind", it would be a lot easier to machine them, or remove extra material by grinding or filing, while still on the loco. New wheels will introduce the issue of quartering them properly, and having the correct press & wheel cups to get them on straight & timed.

Been a while since I have been here but I am restoring a 2026 for one of my kids and while I'm at it I would like to replace the oversized center drivers. Does anyone know of a source for them? The wheels need to be counterweight out by the way. I guess I could get a wrecked up 2037 motor and use those but would rather not.
