The Lionel post war train running on fast track around my Christmas tree sounds like a buzz saw to the tennant below.  How can I isolate it?

Presuming you don't want to move the tree at all, try putting something between the track and the floor or carpet. In my apartment days, I used all sorts of things to reduce the noise and vibration, and also, sometimes increased the scenic effect...  I cut up and layered the remains of a large cardboard box (so it was about 1/2 an inch high; I also cut up and carefully folded and bunched a large grey bathroom towel. I doubled two small area rugs but had to lift the tree too. I also raised the track on a bunch of hard-cover books.... Good luck.

Try some foam board. If not enough add carpet padding

I think the best way to quiet Fastrack is to fill the sections with non-expanding foam.  I haven't done this, but it seems nothing else works.  I have used foam to quiet large hollow steel structures, and it is quite effective.

Do not use expanding foam! If you go this route you will not be able to access the electrical connections under the track.

Do you have anything under the track, or is it sitting on hardwood flooring?

If you can remove the tree I would start there and then put a sheet of sound block (available at Lowes and Home Depot) under the tree for the track to sit on.

If you can't remove the tree, then get some ceiling tiles from Lowes or Home Depot and cut them to fit under the track, you can then screw the track to the ceiling tiles using #4 1 inch screws. Or you could get some carpet padding and cut it to fit inside the track, and also some for the track to sit on.
