Further progress was made with the addition of a cow catcher.  I find that photographing the results gives a better visual perspective on dimensions.  Here the new pilot looks overpowering and too bulky.

Hands up guys if this looks more proportionally correct?  Yep

Then I filled in the gaps.   Done!

On to tying up a few loose ends...routing wiring neatly so that it will all be hidden once the interior is installed.  Aside from the truck mounted motor, all you see in this shot is the CC circuitry tucked compactly into one corner.  The antenna and strobe light are the only pieces not pictured.

Thanks Kev.  The layout is getting ignored in favor of the little projects but it's all good.  I've had the running gear chopped out of the truck for about a month now and figured I better get busy or lose the little parts in the mess of my workbench.

I'm sure most are familiar with the new Lionel inspection pickup with command control found in various road names.  Loosely based on a Ford pickup, they really are a poor likeness and are nowhere near O scale in size.  What's with the paint jobs too?  Semi gloss might look good on a locomotive but not on a MOW vehicle.  I'd much rather have the comparable speeder.

I purchased one none the less because it was cheap and I was dying to see what the basic CC circuitry was involved.  The compact electronics and drive line really could have been shoehorned into a scale, smaller truck had they tried.  I decided to use those components in something of my own design and began hacking away at pot metal.

As of this afternoon, and after a few revisions, this is where I'm at.  I'll need to take some better pictures but the CC board is tucked along side the front operators cab.  The floor of the car won't be entirely level but I hope to hide that fact with seats, people, etc.  The LED headlights mount neatly in behind thebrass acetelyne replicas.  I fashioned those and the radiator from brass shapes

I've started on the celestory (sp?) roof but need to raise the central section yet.  I switch between working with wood or brass as the mood suits.

I finished most of the detail on the undercarriage by adding an exhaust system, fuel tank and other nick nacks.  Will update as progress is made.  Again, sorry about not being able to post pictures and thanks for looking.
