It's unlikely that you devalued them since most link coupler cars are very common and of limited value anyways unless mint. Of course, they could be reconverted, if one desired.

Back in the 50s, I helped one of my friends convert his American Flyer trains from the old link couplings to the then new knuckle couplings.

Lately I've been wondering: Did we ruin the value for collectors?

(The cars were run enough that it probably doesn't matter)
