Hot Rail

Weird thing happened. Trains running slow on one stretch of fastrack. Did some trouble shooting. Voltage ok/same for all track sections. Found "one end" of one 10" piece of track very hot. Almost to hot to touch. Checked that piece and adjoining pieces all looks ok. No shorts, bad ground etc. Replaced the piece and all ok. What could cause something like that? Goy me stumped!

The hot section indicates either a short, or a high resistance joint between sections. A high resistance joint will act like a heater element and get hot.
