Steam Loco 290 hums
Posted by skippygp123 on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 3:29 AM
I just bought a used set which includes a 4-6-2 Steam Loco #290. The locomotive hums when it runs. What could be causing this? Thanks! Ed

This is an American Flyer locomotive. You may need to disassemble the motor and clean and lubricate it, and clean and lubricate the gears.

Are you sure it is the engine that hums? The direction unit or E unit is in the tender on the American Flyer engines that I have. I have the 293 & 295 steam engines. Also when cleaning and servicing the brushes the spring tension is very important, make sure the brushes make a good contact or the engine will stall.
