Maybe you all should call what it really is

RT, any Southerner knows it's pine straw.  My brother and I used to gather it in the woods when we were kids and sell it along with holly and mistletoe at Christmas.  My brother was an entreprenuer.  He was making money from the time he was six.

Blood test this morning.  See Doctor next week.  Wife has another accupuncture treatment today.  Need a haircut too if I can find the time before I start looking like a stray dog.

later,

Ray

Not much happening around here think tomorrow is Rake pine needles day. Oh Boy !! NOT!!

Yankee!!!  Down South they it is called pine straw.  Whistling  BTW: you can sell it.  If you don't want to sell it, call a neighbor that puts it around flowers and shrubs or a landscaping guy.  They will rake it free.  I do that with my neighbor for Pam's flowers and shrubs.

Sorry chief up north at least they teach us that straw has a hole down thru the middle of it so we call it needles as when it gets in your shoe's it's like needles. Maybe you all should call what it really is

Aloha. It's a grey Monday with hints of snow and cold in the next few days. Going back to Minneapolis at the end of the week and they already have a foot and a half of snow. Wow!. Boy, did the Bears ever get destroyed last night, after being destroyed two weeks ago. It's going to be a long rest-of-the-season. At least I spent the gametime productively taking 3K photos off my wife's camera.

Buckeye, she has an iPhone 5c and the Lightening cord fits right through the case. The case for the 5s and 5c have a narrower slot. Sounds like Baby Buckeye and Brutus had nice birthdays, and Banks had a nice anniversary. Buckeye sure is right:  I-65 from Chicago to Louisville is awful.

MikeC, that is sure a nice trip in those streamlined cars. It's nice the trip actually goes somewhere unlike the IRM which is out and back along the same line.

Evening all.

Couldn't understand at first why the Chief would frequent McDonalds....must be cuz they serve McRebs?Smile, Wink & Grin

Speaking of the south, I hope to feel well enough soon to make a trip across the border for some shopping.  Not much variety in current stock up this way...not unless it's a starter set.  Probably cross over into Michigan as opposed to western New York....seems the better bet for well stocked train shops.

Off to bed...y'all have a great week.

Chief down here I have a small yard and they want like $50 to rake it and its not because I'm a Yankee I've seen them charge my neighbors that also. They don't want the straw the city picks it up in there trucks on Thursdays. We use some for around our trees and bushes but there's only so much we can use.

Good evening all,

Concerning Buckeye's comments on Hoosier highways, I have to concur.  I-74 between Cincy and Indy has had some work done and more is being done so it is not too bad.  I-65 south of Columbus is a major disaster and should be avoided like the plague.   US 31 is a slower but safer option.  I-70 is always being worked on and never gets better due to the situation Buckeye describes.   Mulched the leaves again today after watching a great F-1 race.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

How many of you go to McDonalds?  Do you get your receipt?  Here, if you get your receipt you can go on line and give feedback.  On our receipts, you get a buy one get on free quarter pounder with cheese or egg mcmuffin.  I do that all the time.  Even buying a large Diet Coke.  Takes only a few minutes [have it bookmarked].  Saves a lot of $$$$.  Got 30 days to redeem.

Later.

Is that the "secret" to your STEALTH figure?  Here I thought it was all the free Mayoral meals !  LOL

Good morning all,

Chief, getting into the woods by 5:15AM may allow you to get in before the wood ticks wake up.  Glad our mutual buddy has been able to fix your locos.

Went out to eat with our friend from church last night and was finally able to clear the air with him about overdoing our friendship.  I hope he was not offended.  I doubt it.  He has a thick skin.  At least we got our feelings out into the open.  I have too many priorities on my plate these days to worry about things like that.

My wife has had about a dozen treatments so far by accupuncturist.  Don't know how much good it is doing.  She has had some good days with her neck pain but yesterday was not so good.  She had to take the maxium amount of Tylenol recommended yesterday.  Somedays she can get by with just two extra strength. Yesterday she took six.

My newly installed web browser seems to be working well today.  I have learned how to navigate with it now.

Still have not been able to make contact with Midge at MTH about repairing my 1995 engine.  Will keep trying.

I have been having thoughts about selling off a lot of my train collection due to lack of time to devote to it and increasing cost to maintain electronics etc. but have not decided how to do it yet.  My son has agreed to help me do it on E Bay if I want but I might offer it on some train forums first.  If I sell, I will still keep enough things to run as long as I have a layout.

Home again.  No shooters this trip.  Partly cloudy and Yankee temps [chilly].

Did get to open box from Baker's Train Electronics.  Both engines run and sound good.  Guess I'll ship him another one.

More requests to run trains for kids.

Watching all my DVR'd shows I missed while I was gone.  Got TV in camper but I hit the bed early as up by 4:30.  Have to hit the woods by 5:15.

Have a great week all.

Cloudy and 39, it's gonna be a chilly week with temps below average. I expect the winter temps will be that way too.

Charlie has posted our club video from last night. Those who like to see them know where it is. We don't sell anything. Just enjoy the videos.

Watched Thee big game last night, Buckeyes won. I like both teams so I couldn't lose either way.

Good evening all,

Quiet day at work Friday.  Watched Grimm Friday night.   Watched Mexican League soccer on Telemundo tonight.   Went to TCA meet in Indy today.   Good crowd and lots of sellers, just nothing that made me get out the checkbook.   Also saw sister's kids compete in state band contest, which they won.  It was her son's last competition and her daughters's first state competition so it was a good day.  Happy birthday to Brutus.  I get to watch a F-1 race tomorrow and a tape of an English Premiere League match as well.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

WARNING!  Avoid driving on I-65 and I-70 in Indiana. The pavement has failed and created potholes that are not being repaired.  This is what happens when the pavement is not designed/built correctly and over weight trucks are overlooked until recently.  (I wonder if any of the bridges have been damaged, too.)

Buckeye, I always thought that Illinois had the worst roads in the country till I started going to my friend Mark's dad's in  Indiana,, Their roads on all levels make ours look like new. Surprise

Took out 7 tree stumps and trashed all of wifey's flower pots and plants before the big freeze next week. Tired and ready to chill!

Wishing Baby Buckeye a wonderful 35th Birthday today! Cake She has the complete collection of O gauge Polar Express trains and accessories including the huge tunnel for under the tree.

This last week I was in Louisville and Indianapolis.

Wasn't it great to see snow in SC last weekend?  Good job Chuck!! I bet it scared the Chief to see that stuff so close to Roseyville.

Leaves and more leaves have hit the ground.  I love mulching mowers!

I don't know if I mentioned it, but last weekend picked up a repair at Stockyard Express near Oberlin, Ohio.  What a great train store!  Everything is clean and neat.  (Mrs. Buckeye grades train stores on neat and clean.  TK in Bridgeport, Ohio gets high marks, too.)  You can easily see the actual items for sale, not just the end of a box.  They have a new Lionel layout that  has squirrels climbing the light poles.  They also included a replica of their "barn" store on the layout.

Just was given an Iphone 5s at work.  New power/audio/video connection with the lighting connection requires adapters that Apple sell for $30.00 each.  Has anyone seen an adapter that does the power/audio/video and works with a protective phone case?

Have a great weekend, keep warm and Boiler Up!

Good Afternoon all,

Happy Birthday Jim.  Hope you have a good one.Happy B-Day

Finally got my paper work ready for financial planner.  Dumped the whole thing in his lap today.  Now the monkey is on his back.

He wanted to see my trains so we showed him the layout.  He is a non train collector so his mind was blown.  Most people only think of having one train that you bring out at Christmas.

My E mail was unavailable for two days but finally figured out the problem.  Called AOL and they said I needed a new browser.  My son installed today and now I am able to get E mail again.

later,

Ray

Afternoon Gents.

Happy B-Day Brutus.

Cool and dry with just a hint of flurries.  Lots of remembrance programming on history TV due to the up coming observance on the 11th.  makes for good watching.

Now that I have a dry basement it's time to plan on moving the furnace.  Either that of just turn the area ( quite small ) into storage with shelves since head room down there is at a minimum.  I'll talk it over with SWMBO and decide this weekend.

Did a little train running with the Commodore Vanderbilt now that I have freshly lubed it.  Much smoother than it was straight out of the box.  Still, it needs upgrading to cruise, as do a few others in the fleet.  Hello RT!Smile, Wink & Grin

Mornin' Fellas!

Well I survived! All the cabinets are in, except the replacement cabinet for the cabinet that I ordered in error. Still a bit of work to do, but nothing overwhelming.

Kev - One thing I have learned over the years... be careful ordering TVs online. Many are damaged during shipment because freight haulers like to run their forklifts at 80mph in the distribution centers and they are not careful when moving things around. When you buy local and can take the unit home with you - or they have it in-stock and haul it to your house and install it, they are MUCH more careful. The newer units (4K, curved screens, etc) require a bit more savvy to get them setup correctly... don't know why?

I have a 55" Samsung Plasma (old style) in my basement because the sunlight caused far too much glare and degraded the color saturation. I have a 50" Samsung LED in my Master Bedroom and it is crystal clear still after 4 years. And a 60" Toshiba LED in the family room... this set has a 120Hz refresh rate and I can tell you 120Hz is too slow for a screen over 50", there is constant pixelization and motion blur, at times I get sick watching movies, sports, or any fast action content.

I have heard the new Plasma screens do not have the problems with sun glare the older sets had. I am thinking about moving the 50" screen to our spare room, the 55" plasma to our MBr, and the 60" to the basement (since I don't watch TV or movies down there very often), and getting a new 65" LED SmarTV with 240Hz refresh rate for the FR, don't know if I'll go 3D or UHD (4K)... depends what I can find. I will be looking at Samsung because we have a number of Samsung devices and they interconnect quite nicely with the newer TVs...

Good evening all,

Busy day at work, but mostly caught up.  Miserable weather here.   Crashed hard after supper tonight as I did not sleep much last night.  Will be properly medicated before bed tonight.  Do not have to drive tomorrow and not much work staring at me either so should be a good day.  Thanks for the comments on the train trip.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good afternoon,

Thanks for the answers and advice on the television sets.

I think I got lucky. I dug out the manual for the old thing and found out how to do a system reset then adjusted the color. Best it has looked in years. The question is will it hold there? Hmm At any rate I have a better understanding of the new HDTVs for when I do up-date. I just hate to replace something that is still working even if it is 23 years old.

Windy and getting colder all day. Even worse for Doug up north of us. Their calling for 3"+ of the white stuff next Tuesday.   Tongue Tied

Guess I had better get the plow on the JD.

Good morning all,

I have been working on my life history for my financial advisor.  I procrastinated too long and now I only have one week to finish paper work for new plan he is doing for us.  Got more paper work to review from trust lawyer but have 90 days on that one.

I have not been able to get E mail for the last couple of days on AOL.  I think I have about 35 unread messages.  Don't know what the problem is.

Glad the election is over so maybe all those political E mails will go away now.  Probably what killed the E mail.

later,

Ray
