I can see it now - enough folks like this idea that the Lionel Service Department will wonder where the run on replacement engineer figures came from!

Guys, I have also removed the Giants from the K-Line speeder. I replaced them with Tom Hanks and the mechanic from the Polar Express set. Still kind of big but way better.

Then some weathering.

Looks great!  Not at all like those out of scale folks found inhabiting cars and cabs.

I had to fab up the I beam seat support for the postwar 2065 out of a piece of plastic beam I had to get the sit height correct. But the others were just fine right on the Locos

Thanks for posting.  I'll look into this for my postwar steam & diesels.

Adding engineer figures at low cost.

I posted this in another forum for Doug and thought some of you may like to see it to.

Here is the Thomas engineer figure install.
I used a regular Lionel figure used in most any of the late model engines. They cost like $2.50 each I got 8 of them awhile back. They have a hole in the bottom so I cut off the pointed end of a skewer stick the right height to be a pedestal. Jammed it in the hole with a dab of glue and painted the stick black. Here some pictures of the figures prepared.
Lionel Part Numbers are.
6108354014 Gray shirt  6308071014 also Gray shirt
6101190014 Brown shirt
I got 8 of them with shipping from Lionel for under $30.00

Here is one placed in Thomas, All I did was put a dab of hot glue on his side to hold him in place. Can be easily removed and cleaned up as if it was never there.

Here are some in other applications. Once again using Hot glue that can be removed without damage.
