Hi & thanks for your enthusiastic response. I promise to post shots of what I cited!
I'm also compiling a list of links of some of my train related audio clips that I've got stashed on Drop Box. BUT, 4 predate '39 & therefore are not 'kronologically kosher' for this list (gulp!) Summary:
"The Man With The One Track Mind", CBS (radio of course), 1940---a henpecked train obsessed pharmacist has THE BIG ARGUMENT with his wife, turns into a steamer & blasts by rail to visit the great trains at the Flushing World's Fair...comedic whimsy
"Case History On Edgar Loundes", (ditto), 1944: a RR magnate has murderous obsessions about trains ...crime / suspense
"The Jell-O Show starring Jack Benny" NBC, Easter Sunday, 1937...the cast returns from a 2 month stint in NYC in which each of the Sunday shows were broadcast from hotel ballrooms in NYC...the cast is returning to Hollywood via The Chief & of course, many things occur that irritate Jack. This was Eddie Anderson's (his character not then yet named Rochester van Jones) series debut, as a wise cracking porter.
"Trains" by Reginald Gardiner, 1941 USA Decca commercial release of Reginald Gardiner's (USA version) tour-de-force explanation of the personalities and behavior of steam locomotives...all sound effects by his voice...comedic whimsy
as above, but the English Decca with British references from 1934
"Casey Jones" a HOT 1930 Victor by Blanche (Cab's sister) Calloway's orch
"Daybreak Express" a HOT 1934 Victor by Duke Ellington's orch
"On The 5:15", delightful music bemoaning of the challenges of commuting, an Edison Cylinder possibly pre-1920 (I'll determine the date when it's posted) by Billy Murray & orch
"Chicago Limited", music & sound effects by unknown artists of a 7" Zono-O-Phone disk (probably pre-1902)
the AF a-koostikin 7" shellac disk, transferred from a pristine one
AND REMEMBER, IDEALLY CHANGE THE STEEL NEEDLES IN THE TALKING SHEDS AND STATIONS AFTER EACH PLAYING. I AM NOT KIDDING!
