alco's forever!!!!! Majoring in HO scale Minorig in O scale:)
Congrats on the new addition.
Think of our new engineer's vantage point; mainly, looking up. I would think that a nice around the wall G scale train would be fun to watch, and there are shelf layout outfits (like Freedom Train) that you can start with.
Beats the heck out of any muppet-baby mobile...
I agree with fife dog a G scale around the room layout would be great I did one around my den ( 14' x 16' ) for first my standard guage set then switched and put a O guage set up there. but if you just want a shelf I still would make it your self its real easy depending how you want it to look I've always thought those premade ready to assemble was to expensive and normally you get about 3-4 feet of presswood for the price you could do 8' of real wood.

Look at wall paper web sites. I have found several types of backgrounds of buildings, etc. Yes, they repeat about every two feet, but it is a boarder. I have used these to make my portable shelf layouts (for the electronic slow speed Bump & Go trollies) as a back drop of 8 inches high (more or less). This is just one option. There are many backgrounds (city, country, industrial, etc.) you can find on many sites & cut down to the height you need. This way, you don't have to even put building fronts on if room is tight from track to wall. This will give depth to a shelf layout.
