Sorry about this late post. I e-mailed Lionel on 2-1-01 at 8:21am. Lionel e-mailed the answer back in 39 minutes. I must have missed it going through my e-mails.

Basically, lionel stated that these overlays for the CAB-1 were designed to be interchangable, so there was no designed way to attached them. They also indicated they were not aware of any good way to attach them except maybe double sided tape.

So far, it looks like the rubber band method is the best way for now.

Hi Vincent,

You bring up a good point. For the most part, when I am running my trains myself with a CAB-1, the overlays tend to stay in place. But when I have guests over to operate, they almost always disappear and I find them a few days later on the floor.

This has been discussed on other Forums I participate in, but I have not heard of any better ideas on securing the overlays.

I sent an e-mail this morning to Lionel asking this question. They may be a good source since they get feedback from all over the hobby. They usually get back to me the same day. I will post their response when I get it.
