High Show Prices for MTH Subway Sets
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, October 31, 2004 4:25 PM
I spent some time this morning at the Montvale NJ train show. While prices for all new/recent Lionel, MTH, Weaver, Williams and K-Line were all over the place, I noticed that all MTH Subway sets were being offered from 10-percent to over 20-percent over MSRP. The Add-on sets were especially high priced with the World's Fair Add-On sets being offered at $175.

I only spent about an hour at the show and during this time none of the Subway sets, either full sets, or add-on sets were sold.

I guess that dealers are already ratcheting up their prices for these very popular sets. Yet, similar Subway sets have been selling on eBay at or below their suggested MSRP.

The new catalogue lists not just one but TWO new CTA elevated sets; Surprised, After the last batch I was told NO MORE CTA sets

Now I understand that maybe even the cream & green color CTA sets may be showing up soon.

I though my 4 CTA cars would have no more brothers now it looks good that they will have sisters and cousins!!

I will not pay an inflated price for new stuff because it will be reissued and the price will drop. The price drops substantially when improvements are made to the reissue.

Subways have been very popular. I am disappointed Lionel did not come out with comparable items. At this point it would be "me too" and "too much too late".
