If it's a seuthe unit, try to find a thin metal wire and push it into the very small tube within the resistor which heats the fluid. This thin tube is the hottest part of the smoke simulator and can be blocked. If it's blocked, no smoke will come out.

Problems with Smoke Unit on Diesel Engine
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, October 24, 2004 1:49 PM
I was wondering if anyone had any problems and solutions with Lionel Diesel Locomotive smoke units. I recently purchased a 6-28224 Lionel Jersey Central SD-40-2 and have problems with the smoke unit which does not work at the moment. The fan is running and I feel heat coming out of the smoke stack, but no smoke is coming out. I have lightly blown air down the smoke stack to stop any bubbling or air being trapped. I do not want to overfill with more smoke fluid and have more problems. Has anyone on this board had similar problems with Lionel Diesel engine smoke problems. Any info you can give or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all!
