Early Protosound engines are notorious for this failure of the battery. Once the battery dies you cannot get them out of neutral. Replace the battery or even better, install a capacitor battery replacement.
It sounds as if you may have a bad battery. Try starting it up in conventional and let it charge for a bit, kill the power and time the length of time that the sounds continue after you kill the power. If the battery is good the sounds should continue for 8 ~ 10 seconds after the power is turned off.
If the battery doesn't have sufficient power the eng id and other pertinent info will not be saved in the engines electronics consequently it will not appear as being on the track.
