I recently got a well used (roughed up body) walking brakeman car made by American Flyer; about a 1957 vintage. The problem is that the brakeman moves down to one end of the car but with the vibration cranked up high ---- the noise is really too loud. But at the one end (B end) he justs stands there and doesn't make the return trip. Dismantling the car, I did not find anything wrong with the mechanism which was remarkably clean for its years. The black 'paper' that the brakeman weight rides on is in very good shape but the underside of the weight is down to the metal. So am guessing that it needs new material to keep the brakeman moving. If I am correct, is this the same material that goes on the bottom of the cattle for the stockyard pen / cattle car to keep them cows moving? I'll appreciate any help.
The material is the same as the cows or people from the animated station.
Thanks for the comfirmation ---- I didn't think that Gilbert would have a different fabric type for the same vibrating type of operating system.
