I have box car with a broken wheel assembly it is black plastic and one side is broken  and want to fix so it will run on original 2 axles instead of just one.       Thanks    Graeme

Oh boy, this is a tougher question than you think!  What glue to use depends on the plastic.  Testor's plastic glue is pretty much good for anything IF we're talking about plastic models like airplanes, ships, tanks, cars, you name it.  A plastic glue is basically a solvent, it softens the surface of the two parts allowing them to "weld" together. 

When in doubt, I've been using "Loc-Tite"  super glue gel.  It seems to be a good all-round glue.  In fact, any of the gel type super glues work pretty well.

If it's a Lionel box car you can replace the wheel set at very little cost.

Depending on the type of plastic, many hobby shop type glues will not stick to toy train plastic.

As mentioned above you need the right glue for the plastic type so it will melt and weld.

The gel is the way to go. I use it to build structures and even do minor repairs on metal (such as 1:32 metal toy soldiers).

I have used instant jet which is a cyanoacrylate glue. I have used this to seal my electro couplers closed and haven't had a problem since. Just have some turpentine handy as it will glue your fingers together if it gets on you.

I too use Loc-tite super glue with plastics. It appears to do the job.
