Hi, I have a brand new C&O Allegheny 2-6-6-6 steam engine (6-28011) that is totally dead. The tender and railsounds and whistle work fine, but the engine shows no sign of life. I bought this as a used item and have no warranty. It is a rather intimidating piece to tear into looking for a loose wire or other problem. I was hoping someone might have some technical information on this engine that may assist me. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dave
Does the headlight work? How about the smoke unit? I assume that you are either running conventional or you have it programmed correctly for TMCC if you can get the whistle to work. If you are using TMCC, can you make the headlight turn on and off or the smoke on and off? That would likely eliminate a TMCC problem, or at least tell you that some of it works. Will a command engine run in command mode if it is in "program" mode? Perhaps that switch is in the wrong position?
I hope it turns out to be a simple solution for you,
J White
I am operating in conventional transformer mode with a Z4000 transformer. The headlight does not come on and the smoke unit does not work either. The engine itself does nothing. The tender does whistle when the transformer calls for it. I have tried the pgm/run switch in both positions and still nothing. Thanks for your thoughts. Dave
It sounds like either the locomotive itself is not getting power, or it has a bad board, perhaps the DC regulator board, or the AC regulator board.

Thanks very much, I am reluctant to dive into one of these newer engines. Dave
They were fairly reasonable with the labor rate which I think was 89.00 for the engine I sent, parts and shipping were extra. That one was an articulated steamer too and it had more than one problem.
