Got home last night. Long drive. Drove through a real frog-floater rain front (same one that caused all the tornados) yesterday in Mississippi. Couldn't see signs by the road. Got behind a truck doing about 25-30 mph until we drove out of it. Whew!
I picked up a nice unaltered NYC kerosene switch lantern. Still has the kerosene reservoir and only needs a wick. Also found a very nice Right-of-Way scale brass 040 tank switcher for $200. Finally found a mint K-line scale Shay for $600. Put it on the test track, runs great & sounds great! Also picked up a few smaller items.
it was great seeing the gang which is the best part of the trip. John the ice cream in the parking lot was outstanding! New tradition. We talked about bringing chairs next time - we might not get back to the show?

Mrs & I got back from our York/Lancaster expedition about 7:45.
Spent till now getting things carried in put away and checking on the oldsters.

Great show again. I picked up a great deal on a Command TMCC NYC FT ABA set for a stunning $140 bucks. Also from Nassua Trains a Legacy GP35 in Reading with a dummy for $410 bucks. These engines just grabbed me and I had to buy them. Sold 3 engines too at the meet so broke even in the dimes and nickels.. Had a great time BS ing with the GANG there. Gee I think I even walk at least 10 miles, for the two days there. Made room for the Ice cream in the parking lot. DORAY I gave JOHN a hug to give to you, don't know if he did or not? Nice talking with the gals MRS. BANKs, FIFES WIFIE, and DA GUYZ, SIR JAMES, CHARLIE aka MICHRR, JELECTRIC, ROY, FIFE, BANKS, RAY53, HUDSONJOHN, and BOB KELLER and CARL at the CTT booth.
I can't remember a time when I saw this much American Flyer and Marx items.
I scored many prewar Flyer cars, especially from the first years when AC Gilbert owned the company. As far as postwar, I got an Oil Drum Loader.
Great time with the guys whether it be Breakfast, Ice Cream social or Dinner. Nice to catch up on things and talk shop.

A great ice cream treat with the Pot guys. As for prices the PW oldies were overpriced as usual but dealers had some good buys on newer items I bought a Legacy C630 for $260. Also a PW die cast gray work caboose w/box for $20.And a nice chat with Carl and Bob from CTT.

I also had a great time, walked the show Thursday & Friday with Roy, had breakfast with the gang Friday Morning & got together with guys & gals at CTT for a picture. And not to be forgotten were the ice cream treats in the parking lot by Mrs Hudson#685 & delivered by John, great stuff. Was very frugal this time at York , just bought a peanut butter truck (private joke here) and two new caps to wear at the PA RR Museum. Was tempted a few times but a little voice kept whispering in my ear (you need to get rid of some stuff to make room first). So maybe in October.
YORK was mighty fine. First and always foremost, was great visiting with the Coffee Pot gang at the CTT booth. Carl Swanson and a very svelt looking Bob Keller posed for pics with us. Got caught up with Roy, Hudson John, AF53, Laz, jefelectric, MichRR, SirJames, Banks and his Mrs. Hope all had a safe trip home.
Fifey's Wifey must have been a good luck charm. Scored a LIONEL #6-24111 swing bridge (still sealed in box) for $150, the new #6-36998 Gingerbread man gateman from LIONEL, and a #1800 General Frontier Set for $175. No box with the set, but there wasn't a nick or scratch on it. When I tried to run it at home, it just sparked at the wheels, and growled a bit. After a 5-10 minute "waking up", the General really came back to life. And OH!!! that great ozone smell. This was one instance where I'm glad I didn't place it on the test track, because I would have walked away on the deal. Also picked up a loop of Atlas/Industrial Rail track for $20.
I felt the prices were actually pretty good (at least for the stuff I was interested in). There were bargains to be had in every aisle, and I really had to show financial discipline this go-round.
Organizers still need to do a better job of aisle spacing, as some were tookusses-to-elbows, while others could have played a pick-up game of touch football. Most manufacturers were there with their usual displays, but I didn't see RMT (and I was looking for a Beth Steel Bang). The Williams/Bachmann folks had a neat 8x4 showing their 4-6-0 really tackles steep grades with a train in tow. Impressive steamer.
Lots of tinplate this show (new and old), and some really pretty european collections.
I would enjoy hearing about your York experiences and purchases. How are the overall prices this year? Hope you guys & gals are having a wonderful time

Laz, Now that you are retired, you have to get your priorities right. Need to make sure you are not interfering with train activities when making appointments. Still not to late to call and plead an emergency. By the way Eastern Division posts the dates well in advance. See below.

I will miss this spring and most likely the fall but I guarantee you that 2015 will find us there. There is nothing like York, anywhere.
~1600 mile drive or flight for me. Not counting other expenses, like motel, meals, rent car (if flying.) Despite any potential show savings, the kind of money that would take is much, much better spent on train stuff. I admit I never have understood the York frenzy. I'll pass, but y'all enjoy.
