Question On Repairing A Lionel 54 Tamper
Posted by MickeyDemian on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 12:56 PM

Hello All:

I recently picked up a PW 54 Tamper that I am cleaning and trying to repair.  I have not applied power to it yet.  While cleaning the motor and brushes I see that the power lead wires from the both roller contacts to the motor ( they both go to the same pole as I think is proper) seem to have no insulation on them.  Just bare wires that both appear to contact the frame and motor  body along their run.  Is this proper, or should I replace them with insulated wires of hte same diameter?  Just thought I would ask before placin the unit on the track.

The wires should be insulated; replace them.
