American Flyer 596 Water Tank wiring diagram & spout connection.
Posted by Loco309 on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 9:05 AM

Does anyone have access to a wiring schematic & diagram for the 596 water tank.  A family member gave me this tank, but inside the top, are two wires (black & green) that are supposed to be soldered to something & also connected to the top & bottom coil wires, but those connections are broken.  Does anyone know how to easily re-solder those connections?  Note: The yellow wire is still soldered to the light bulb base.

As for the spout, how does it connect to the spring attached assembly & plate inside & below the round coil?

LOCO309,

Hi, I don't have a way to copy or fax a wiring diagram due to broken printer etc.

If you do a search on Doug Peck and or Port Line hobbies, he has several diagrams posted, and you might find the one you need for that water tank.

I hope to get my printer/fax machine working soon if you don't find one.  Also try this forum, dedicated to S gauge, someone may be able to get you one more quickly.

Hi Aflyer, Much appreciate the two links you mentioned.  I was able to download (at an expense, but worth it to me) the RFG103 AMERICAN FLYER TRAINS INTERNAL ACCESSORY WIRING guide from the rfgco.com website.  Again, it was pricey, but valuable to me.  I am still looking for a document that shows the internal parts of the water tank, because the lever (for lack of a better word) that pivots and has a spring hole in one end & a bent tab with hole, to hold the special stiff wire that connects on the other end to the actual black water spout.  This lever came loose & for the life of me, I can't figure out how to reattach it, as it goes below the round solenoid that is attached by a screw to the cross brace on the upper part of the water tank.  Now that I know what colored wire connects to what inside, I am just stumped as to how to reattach that 'flat metal lever' that pivots up & down to raise & lower the spout when the control button is energized.  Hope I've made my dilema clear.  I just can't seem to find a drawing anywhere, that shows how the working parts inside the tank go together.

I guess what I still need is an exploded view drawing, like those of how locomotives, etc. go together with part numbers.  Just can't locate something like that for this water tank.  Frustrating!
