I recently purchased a Protosound 2.0 Diesel upgrade. The installation went very well and I cann tell the difference between my install and a factory install. I have over 20 years working wiith electronics so I doubt it is my lack of skill that is the problem with my installation. I also have the DCS system so I am stumped what the problem can be. The locomotive is very eratic sometimes taking off like a rocket or it takes off like a slug, it is also herky and jerky, then it runs normal. I have made several calls to MTH and they told me to change the timing decal on the motor and to double check all my connections which I have. I also made sure that I had the correct sound file as I know that there is a difference. My question isn't so much how to fix this problem as it is has anyone else had this problem? I want to send the unit back to MTH but since it is a self install it is no longer covered by warranty which I feel they shouldn't be selling these as add ons if there is no warranty for a self install. DCC manufactures don't do this so why do we get this treatment in O gauge? If anyone has had a similiar problem please let me know.

Can't stop working on the railroad!
Check the gap between the tach sensor and the flywheel. On the install I did in a williams the bracket that came with the kit left too big of a gap by just a hair and it ran all messed up like yours. I made my own mounting for the sensor and it now runs just like any other proto 2 engine.
