I have bought the connectors from a local high end stereo installer/store. Bought a ton of them

The above is what Lionel used. They are made by AMP, P.N. 42067.

Those won't work.  That's 5 1/4-inch and 5 3/16-inch connectors.  You need .11-inch.  Try this:
