Does anyone have any history on this car? Did it come with a set, do the cows in the picture belong with it etc.....

I have three of these cars but I got mine in an auction so I'll be watching to see what kind of answers you get.

The Greenberg's Guide to Marx Trains Vol. I does not show any with the car, but then it might have been part of a set, or something totally unrelated and added by a past owner.

The cattle look like the ones that American Flyer made to work with it's stockyard. It looks like they even have the felt pads under the bases.

As an aside, I wish I knew why I never thought to add a few head of cattle into my stock car?

Those cows are from the American Flyer Operating Stockyard. The felt pads were what helped move the cattle when the base vibrated.
