That was the bitter end!
Mrs. McDoakes was Jane Frazee who Co-starred with Roy Rogers in a number of his westerns when Dale Evans took a break to pursue other types of roles. Here you can hear Jane's most pleasant singing voice: http://youtu.be/5_eArYL4gOM
Ted Stanhope was the Train Store Clerk. He also played the railroad station master in "High Noon."
I'll leave the moving man, Alice McDoakes' mother, Junior and the guys in the model train store for someone else to identify.

There was a bit of a joke in the short concerning "Mr. Agony" that very few people would get nowadays. In the '40s there was a radio personality named John J. Anthony who provided advice for people with problems, especially marital woes, kind of a "Dear Abby" of the times, if you will. People called him "John J. Agony" considering the problems he dealt with. I tried to find a link to post for those who'd like to know more but really couldn't find much at all.
Oh, and the film's brilliant! The best "Joe McDoakes" short ever!
Now I wonder who was the Lionel fan at Warner Brothers?
That was very good.
I think I saw that a very long time ago. I am now running some track from the kitchen into
the dining room...
that was great, thanks for sharing!

It's a TOY, A child's PLAYTHING!!! (Woody from Toy Story)
Let's give credit where it's due. "Joe McDoakes" was a character in a series of Warner Brothers shorts distributed between 1942 and 1956. Joe was played by actor George O'Hanlon.
The Warner Archive sells a dvd with all 63 of the McDoakes shorts. They show up from time to time on TCM I believe.

great post. loved the video. can't wait to show my wife.
During the 1940's - 1950"s comedian George O'Hanlon made a series of short films titled "Joe McDoakes, So You Want...". One of them is titled SO YOU WANT A MODEL RAILROAD. It is full of Lionel Postwar Trains and Operating Cars and Accessories. I almost fell on the floor laughing at the dinner scene. This is a must see film especially if you are into Lionel Postwar...... http://youtu.be/Ml1Yf489BnI
