Razorback Traction Co.: Crocodile Update 1/3/14
Posted by M. Mitchell Marmel on Friday, January 3, 2014 7:07 PM

As one of my New Year's resolutions, I vowed to get some work on the Crocodile done...

(for previous pic, see: http://cs.trains.com/ctt/f/95/t/225848.aspx )

In order to install the trolley poles and pantograph, the roof headlights and air tanks had to go, alas.  Dremel + saw blade = lotsa sawdust:

Helpful Hobby Hint:  Those cheap plastic signs at Walleyworld make a great source of inexpensive sheet styrene:

Some sanding later:

A bit of putty to fill in the holes:

Plastruct roofwalks cover a multitude of sins:

Test fitting the pantograph (the "insulators" are brass threaded inserts salvaged from barcode scanners):

Trolley pole bases and hooks installed:

A mockup fitting of the Crocodile showing poles and pans in position...

As can be seen, the Lionel heritage (520 body, tender ends, RS3 chassis) can be clearly seen...

More to come!  Enjoy!

So what's your plan for the paint scheme?

Solid red with black roofwalks, eventually.  :)

In the next installment, I demonstrate how Lectric Shave and a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser remove markings without damaging the plastic...  :D
