Help with sluggish engines
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, October 9, 2004 7:36 PM
I have two engines - 1 standard scale and the other O scale. Both engines exhibit the same problem. When first placed on the track they move easily down the track. After a few minutes the trains begin to slow down. After about 10 minutes the train is moving so slowly it eventually stops. Any ideas what is happening? Please speak in laymen terms since I know next to nothing how these engines run. THANKS!

Are you running both with the same transformer? If you are, it's possible that your transformer is getting too hot to the point that it can no longer efficiently deliver the current needed to run your trains. If it's an older one, it could be some sort of internal problem, or it could be that you're putting too much strain on it, and need to get a larger one.

ben10ben is probably right, too much strain on the transformer. You might need a transformer that has a higher watt output than the one you have.

Also, it would be a good idea, if the engines are older, to have them serviced.

Hope this helps.
