I decided to pull out my old (circa 1980s) Lionel trains to put around the Christmas tree. Included is a Lionel Shell Tank Car, (Lionel item #6-6310), which is a yellow two-dome tank car on a basic sheet metal frame. I remember purchasing it at a train show with my father, and I think at the time both ends were intact. Fast forward 20 years and I missing one of the tank car ends.
A search of the Lionel website (http://www.lionel.com/media/servicedocuments/16310.pdf) revealed that the part number I am looking for is 00-63XX-015. They don't have it in stock... likely because the car is over 30 years old. I am willing to purchase any matching (style wise, not color wise) from any suitable tank car and repaint it to match, but I don't know where I can locate one. I tried SandW Trains and Parts but they didn't have anything.
I don't want to purchase another car just to remove the end from it for the original car.
Can anyone recommend a source, or does anyone have one lying around that they might be willing to sell? The local train show here came and went without help, and I was hoping to acquire it by Christmas if possible.
Thanks!
