Welcome to the forum, and yes, this is the right spot to ask your questions. All wiring in the locomotive use the metal chassis as ground, and there are generally no separate ground wires used.

I would suggest you get some scrap wire together and practice your soldering skills before working on your locomotive. Soldering is not hard, just remember to use enough heat, and heat the joint, and let the joint melt the solder. Do not heat the solder directly.

Rewiring Light Sockets on an 1835E

First time poster here, so I apologize if this isn't the correct place for this sort of question.  I'm restoring an 1835E, and will soon need to rewire the light sockets.  The original wires in this loco were extremely brittle if there at all.  I've figured out my power location, but need to determine a good ground.  Also, as for the actual wiring of the socket itself, need some help there.  I'm not a complete idiot, but my solder skills are lacking....I've been asking any and all questions to whoever will listen since I've started this resto.  Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
