Howdy all,
I am having a problem on the right side of the engine. Everything works perfect. But, after awhile, the rod on the very outside, the one that connects to the middle wheel, will fall off. The little bolt or pin comes out also. The rod stays connected near the front cylinder. How can I fix this?
Thanks,
Brody
Assuming it's a threaded bolt and the threads aren't stripped, I'd try puttting Loc-Tite on the threads. Mind you, use the Loc-tite that will release if and when you want to remove the bolt, there's Loc-Tite that darn near makes a permanent seal and makes a screw or bolt a pain in the butt to remove.
If it's a pin that holds the rod in Loc-Tite may work as well, but you may have to find or make a larger pin.
A dab of paint on the threads will seal the bolt against vibrating loose and may be easier to take out than one treated with a locking adhesive. Let the paint dry overnight before putting the loco into use.

The outer rod, that connects the crosshead to a crank on a driver, is the "main" rod. The other rod, that connects the cranks of all the drivers together, is the "side" rod. (In British, these are respectively the "connecting" and "coupling" rods.)
