If you can't find the article Kalmbach has a book of track plans. Check under the "Shop" heading st the top of the screen. You'll find it under "Realistic Operation."
I'm sure there's something in there that'll fit the bill.
Could it have been "Lionel's D-146 dealer display layout REBOOTED!" by Kent Johnson, on page 59 of the December, 2012, issue, with follow-up articles in the next several issues?

We have moved and had to downsize. I only have space for a 4 x 8 layout. I had a page from a late 2012 or early 2013 issue but it was lost in the move. The picture was of a 4 x8 layout and only one page with no color and illustrated a subscriber who submitted his version of a layout with Lionel track that I believe was a loop with 2 switches connecting to an inner loop and 110 trestles on the right side of the layout. I think I remember that the page was towards the end of the magazine and on the right hand page.
If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much. John
