For a display shelf, I would use Atlas 2 rail track. It doesn't have the big, bulky look of the 3 rail track, and is very realistic with regards to tie spacing and details.

For my display track I use standard Gargraves track with the wood ties. I pull out the center rail to make it look more realistic.

What do you consider the best looking, most realistic looking track? I don’t care how it performs. I want to use it for a display shelf. I plan to ballast it also to make it look even better.
