By the way, this bridge is an example of a Lionel misnomer: It's a Howe through-truss, not a trestle.

Scotie: Thanks for the advice. Will try and see what happens.
As the bridge is metal most anything can be used to remove the paint--people use brake fluid, oven cleaners, 91% isopropyl alchohol or a regular paint remover.
For the rust the best thing I've used is Evapo-Rust available on the net or at many auto parts stores. Removes all the rust and doesn't harm anything else, no fumes just soak the parts.

Found a 317 trestle bridge that, for all intents and purposes, should have been left in the trash BUT I couldn't resist the temptation with grand thoughts of a restoration project.
So, here's the question: What would you suggest that I use to strip the remaining paint and to remove the rust? (The structure itself seems to be intact.)
